Oil and Gas

Understanding safety culture across the different operations of the oil and gas chain, taking into account leadership decisions and the involvement of contractors.

Context

One chain, distinct operational realities

Exploration, production, refining and the movement of oil and gas involve different environments. Management needs to recognize the conditions at each facility and the relationships between those who plan, authorize and carry out the work.

In activities shared between areas and companies, clarity of responsibilities deserves attention. A guideline may be known and still leave doubts about how to act when something changes. Safety culture helps explain how these doubts are handled and whether they reach someone who can resolve them.

This is the context in which leaders decide on priorities, resources and whether activities continue. Examining these choices shows how safety commitments translate into the operation, including during interventions and shutdowns.

Our work

Bringing operational decisions into the assessment

The work can combine an assessment, listening to teams and analysis of management practices. Serious injury and fatality prevention can be part of the evaluation, together with the technical areas’ knowledge of the operation.

The findings guide planning and the development of the leaders involved. Follow-up seeks to identify barriers to applying the tools, clarify responsibilities and create conditions for learning to reach the different companies and teams.
